Tom Spiller, ICE QUEST Technician Scholarship
Huge congratulations to JGP’s technician, Tom Spiller, for winning a coveted ICE QUEST Technician Scholarship.
The QUEST Technician Scholarship helps students who are getting hands-on technical and practical engineering experience whilst studying for academic qualifications which could lead to a professional qualification. The ICE were particularly impressed with Tom’s “enthusiasm for the industry and his commitment to furthering his career in engineering”. Tom is currently a day release student at Plymouth City College and in his final year studying for a Higher National Certificate in Civil Engineering. He is hoping to extend his studies to a BSc foundation degree and then a degree. The scholarship will help him to progress his studies. In order to apply for the scholarship, applicants were required to be in employment and studying on an ICE accredited course. Eight out of 28 applicants were selected for interview and only three of those interviewed were selected for the scholarship. |
As part of the scholarship, Tom is required to attend ICE events and clubs in Plymouth and also to write a report detailing his academic progress.Managing Director John Grimes said: “No one who meets Tom can do other than be impressed by Tom’s enthusiasm and commitment to both his job and his studies. Tom will do well”. |
